The piano is a combination of white and black keys in a repeating pattern. The musical alphabet is A B C D E F G – this repeats if going up to higher sounding notes, moving to the right. To descend or play lower notes, move to the left and the alphabet goes backwards, G F E D C B A G F E D C B A etc…
These piano keys notes make up a chord progression with the same intervalic structure, moving up a minor 3rd and then descending chromatically (half steps). This is a good beginner exercise that many other exercises will be built upon.
